John's Obituary
John Roderick McCusker, owner of Club Montage in San Diego and son of John and Christine McCusker, died on Sunday, March 13, 2005. He was 31. While on vacation in Mammoth, John succumbed to congestive heart failure caused by altitude. Born on August 27, 1973, in Covina, California, he grew up in Temecula. He attended Kid's World Preschool, Pala Mission Elementary, Temecula Middle School, and Temecula Valley High School. He graduated from University of San Diego with a degree in Business Administration. John's entrepreneurial spirit began at a young age. He was an active member of DECA while attending TVHS. Through his experience in the marketing club, he started his first business, Cash for Clubs, as a junior in high school. After college, he opened Club Montage in San Diego. John McCusker's exemplary and superlative community service included his involvement with the AIDS charities and the Harvey Milk/Tom Homman Student Scholarship. He enhanced his professional skills and services with significant and commendable community endeavors, including his work with the Polinsky Center, Voter Registration, and a $50,000 donation to the Gay/Lesbian Community Center. He invested an enormous amount of energy, emotion, resources, and experience in the projects he championed. San Diego County Board of Supervisors along with the City of San Diego officially named August 27, 1999 "John McCusker Day" for his outstanding service, leadership and commitment to the county of San Diego and the general well-being of the area residents and for his notable achievements and contributions. Most recently, John served as Vice-President of the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation and the Greater San Diego Business Association. He served as chairman of several committees within those organizations. John will be remembered by his family and friends for his fun loving spirit, the love he shared with his parents, sisters, nieces and nephews, and the goodness he brought out in all those he touched. His energy and smile were contagious. John is survived by his parents, John and Christine McCusker of Temecula, sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Firas Naber and sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Craig Pena of Temecula; four nephews and three nieces all of Temecula, his partner David Trick of San Diego, and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Viewing and Rosary services will be held on Thursday evening at Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City starting at 4:00 p.m. A funeral mass and memorial services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculata Catholic Church on the University of San Diego campus Burial services will follow at the Temecula Public Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Donations can be made to the John McCusker Education Fund at the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation located at P.O.
